According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), parameters for the Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) collected on most customs entries will soon change. Effective January 1, 2018, the minimum MPF will increase to USD 25.67 (up from USD 25) and the maximum MPF will rise to USD 497.99 (up from USD 485) per entry. The fee, which is paid at the time of entry summary, is based on the commercial value of imported goods, excluding duty, freight and insurance charges. Under NAFTA, goods that qualify to be marked as Canadian goods according to the Marking Rules are exempt from MPF.
