OCEAN CARRIERS ANNOUNCE VARIOUS SURCHARGES TO USA, CANADA

As the PMA and ILWU continue to work towards a new West Coast labor agreement, several ocean carriers have announced a wide range of new surcharges with various implementation dates, some of which are directly related to the outcome of negotiations.

Below, please find a sampling of several such charges:

  • Vancouver Day Gate Reservation Fee (effective July 2, 2014 for imports; effective July 8, 2014 for export cargo): TIS Terminal Systems Inc. & DP World (Canada) have announced a new $50 fee for gate reservations during the 08:00 to 16:30 time window. Gate reservations for pickups and deliveries during night hours (16:30 to 01:00) will remain free of charge.
  • Peak Season Surcharge: Far East, Middle East and S. Africa to USA & Puerto Rico (effective July 1 thru 14, 2014): Evergreen has announced a PSS of $160/20', $200/40', $225/4'HC & reefer, and $253/45' from the Far East (except India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh), Middle East and S. Africa to G4 States and other inland via U.S. West Coast (except inland cargo via Tacomia, WA).
  • Peak Season Surcharge: Far East, Middle East and S. Africa to USA & Puerto Rico (effective July 15, 2014): Evergreen has announced a PSS of $320/20', $400/40', $450/4'HC & reefer, and $506/45' from the Far East (except India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh), Middle East and S. Africa to G4 States and other inland via U.S. West Coast (except inland cargo via Tacomia, WA).
  • Peak Season Surcharge: Far East, Middle East and S. Africa to USA & Puerto Rico (effective July 1, 2014): Evergreen has announced a PSS of $320/20', $400/40', $450/4'HC & reefer, and $506/45' from the Far East (except India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh), Middle East and S. Africa to and via U.S. East Coast, Puerto Rico and Inland cargo via Tacoma, WA.
  • Peak Season Surcharge: India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh to USA & Puerto Rico (effective July 15, 2014): Evergreen has announced a PSS of $240/20', $300/40', 40'HC & reefer, and $380/45' will apply to shipments from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh to USA & Puerto Rico.
  • Peak Season Surcharge: Far East, Middle East and S. Africa to Canada (effective July 15, 2014): Evergreen has announced a PSS of $320/20', $400/40', $450/4'HC & reefer, and $506/45' from the Far East (except India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh), Middle East and S. Africa to Canada. Further, a PSS of $240/20', $300/40', 40'HC & reefer, and $380/45' will apply to shipments from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh to Canada.
  • General Rate Increase (GRI): Far East to USA (effective August 1, 2014): ZIM has announced a GRI of $480/20', $600/40', $675/40'HC and $760/45' on shipments from all origins in the Far East to all U.S. destinations, including WC, EC, Gulf & IPI traffic. The General Rate Increase will apply to Dry & Refrigerated cargo as well as to special cargo in open tops, flat racks.
  • General Rate Increase (GRI): Far East to Canada (effective August 1, 2014): ZIM has announced a GRI of $640/20', $800/40', $850/40'HC and $1,076/45' on shipments from all origins in the Far East to all Canada destinations. The General Rates Increase (GRI) will apply to general cargo as well as special cargo in open tops, flat racks and reefer containers.
  • Port Congestion/Strike Surcharge (effective only if a strike occurs): ZIM has announced a preemptive surcharge, applicable to all U.S. ports, including inter-modal traffic within the States, only if a strike or lockout occurs, which would impact all U.S. traffic. This congestion surcharge would apply on a per vessel/voyage basis, and once applied, ZIM would advise charge levels, as well as affected vessel names and voyage numbers.
